Top 5 Father’s Day Stories and Gift Ideas

May 31, 2011

Father’s Day is June 19, which is right around the corner! To give everyone a little inspiration, we asked users to submit their favorite memory/moment about their dad.  Here are our picks for the top 5 Father’s Day stories!

1.) Make him Smile

My father treated us like queens. I remember when boys would come to the house for dates. One time, this boy came in a car and beeped his horn. Well, my father went out there and told him that if he was picking up his daughter, he had to get out of the car and knock on the door! He demanded others to respect us as he did. – Stephanie

2.) Support His Hobbies

My favorite memory is going fishing with my dad. We would go out the night before and get worms from the yard. We’d put them in the fridge so that they’d stay alive. Then, in the morning, we’d grab them, and we would be out fishing all day. Those were the best days. – Allyn

3.) Remember a Family Trip

A few years ago, I took my dad on a backpacking trip to Yosemite. It was the first time that he’d gone since he was a boy scout. We had an amazing time, so I took one of the pictures from our trip and put it on a poster to give to him. He LOVED it, and now he’s reminded of our trip all the time! – Elaine

4.) Super Dad Products

My dad has always been there for me – no matter what. If I need help with something, he would drop everything to help me, even if it is at 3AM or in the middle of a meeting! He is simply my hero.  – Shelli

5.) Tell Dad That You Love Him

My Dad is amazing! Once, I was out with my friends, and I stayed out past my curfew. When I came back, Dad was really upset. He wouldn’t say anything, but I knew it, so I made this “sorry” card for him and placed it at his side table. I thought that he would wake up and see it.  Well, when I woke up in the morning, I saw the same card at my side table. It read: “I love you, but don’t do it again!” *Sigh* I love him SO MUCH!!!! – Maria

Zazzle Featured Seller Interview with kat_parrella

May 26, 2011

New Zazzler Kat, from the Zazzle store kat_parrella, talks to us about her art and what she’s looking forward to on Zazzle.  Check out the interview below and don’t forget to check out her store kat_parrella!

Patriot Stripes Baby Boy Photo Magnet

Bio: I’m a self-taught artist, and I just love drawing, painting, jewelry-making, photography, cooking, and laughing (loudly, I’ve been told).   I’m the wife of a wonderfully understanding husband, the mother of two beautiful teenage daughters, I’m passionate about my family, and I get totally absorbed in things I feel strongly about.  It’s only in the past few years that I’ve discovered a love of graphic design and have been putting that love to use in donating my services to several non-profit organizations by creating logos, event flyers, and brochures for them.  But when I discovered Zazzle late last year, my creative energies just took off and I’ve never been happier.

Zazzle: What’s your inspiration for your designs?

Kat: Just about anything!  I find inspiration everywhere and all around me.  Colors, shapes, textures, nature – it’s very hard to describe where it comes from or how my personal process works, because, for as long as I can remember, I’ve always looked at the world and thought “how can I create something from that?”

Zazzle: When and how did you first become interested in art? How long have you been making art?

Kat: I’m sure I must have become interested in art when I met my first box of crayons.  I’ve been creative my entire life, first drawing, then painting, and now with graphic design.  When I was young, I had planned to go to art school and dreamed of being “an artist”. Unfortunately, my life didn’t quite turn out as I had planned and I spent many years toiling away in a very non-creative, joyless career – putting away those dreams.  But now, I can happily say that I’m taking a new direction and bringing art back into my life, and it feels like I’ve woken up from a long, deep sleep.

Zazzle: How would you describe your style?

Kat: I think I have a more gentle and playful style, although lately I’ve been having fun exploring my retro side. I also love elegance and sophistication.  Hmmm… maybe that’s not so easy a question to answer!

Zazzle: What has been your favorite design you’ve created, and why?

Kat: Now this is a really tough question! I think I fall a bit in love with each design while I’m creating it, so it’s really hard to choose – it’s kind of like asking a mother which one is her favorite child!  But, if you’re going to make me, I would have to say that one of my earliest Zazzle designs, Sweet Groovy Blooms, is still one of my favs. I’m also really pleased with a recent one I did Twin Teddy Bears for a baby shower. Oh, and well, I also like Retro Snowflakes and the Heart Love Cocktail design… see what I mean? I love them all, so I really can’t choose.

Sweet Blooms Bridal Shower Invitations

Zazzle: Being a new seller on Zazzle, what are you looking forward to the most?

Kat: The opportunity to create with no boundaries!  I love the freedom to have an idea and just see where it takes me.  It may sound corny, but it brings me infinite joy.

Zazzle: What’s your favorite Zazzle product to create?

Kat: I really love to create invitations and announcements that celebrate happy events.  I’m the unofficial event planner of my family and just love to throw parties, organize gatherings and family get-togethers. I’ve always created my own invitations, so creating invitations for others to use for their special events just comes naturally, I guess.  And, I absolutely love to create anything to do with babies, especially showers and birth announcements.

Zazzle: What got you interested in selling your art on Zazzle?

Kat: I loved that there was no startup costs, I can set my own royalties, and I can have my designs on such a wide variety of products, if I wish.  And, since producing the products is totally Zazzle’s responsibility it leaves me free to simply create – and that’s the part I love.  Though, probably the most important thing that brought me here is that Zazzle gives me the ability to instantly reach a worldwide audience that would have been extremely difficult, if not impossible, to reach all on my own.  Thank you for that!

Zazzle: What tips can you give someone who is just starting out on Zazzle?

Kat: Create, create, create – every single day, BUT never, ever, sacrifice quality for quantity. Also, have realistic expectations and be patient as you grow your product line and your store.

Thanks Kat!

Zazzle Featured Seller Interview with GoodToGoTees

May 19, 2011

Stephen, from the Zazzle store GoodToGoTees, talks to us about his art, his inspirations, and his time at Zazzle.  Check out the interview below and don’t forget to check out his store GoodToGoTees!

That's Mister Old Fart to You Mug

Bio: I grew up and spent most of my adult life in the Northeast, mainly Massachusetts and New Hampshire. In high school, art was my major and I had thought about going into a career in commercial art, but never pursued it.  For over 25 years I was involved in the high tech industry as a hardware computer tech, but as a result of company downsizing (and future employment in this field of work disappearing), I returned to my passion – art. I started with just a few designs and basic software, and I jumped into the print on demand business.  As my experience and skills progressed, along with my increasing volume of designs, I saw more sales and believed this could become a steady source of income to allow me to be a stay at home Dad.  With Zazzle’s products and marketplace, the sky’s the limit.

Zazzle: What’s your inspiration for your designs?

Stephen: The majority of my designs are related to humor in some manner – from parody designs to sports and everything in-between. I really try to come up with designs that will make people laugh.  I find humor in every day words or common phrases, and sometimes I’ll add a funny graphic to complete the design.

Zazzle: When you’re not creating art, what are your other hobbies?

Stephen: I’m a hardcore do-it-yourselfer.  I designed and built the first 2 homes that my family and I lived in. The first home was a passive solar home built into the side of hill.  I love remodeling, creating and building anything that I can call an original.  My other hobbies include watching old school muscle car drag races, fishing and landscaping around my home.

Zazzle: What’s your favorite Zazzle product to create?

Stephen: T-shirts, hands down.  Creating funny t-shirts and knowing the people who buy them appreciate my twisted sense of humor and are also brave enough to wear them.

Camping is In Tents T-Shirt

Zazzle: Do you have any fun stories about being a seller on Zazzle?

Stephen: Having 2 designs featured on the same day in Today’s Best was quite a thrill. Definitely makes you feel you must be doing something right.

Zazzle: What got you interested in selling your art on Zazzle?

Stephen: Zazzle offers a free storefront for your designs, and no limit to the number of designs and products you choose to have.  For me, the selection of shirt styles and colors is a huge plus for t-shirt designers.

Zazzle: What tips can you give someone who is just starting out on Zazzle?

Stephen: If you’re just starting out, try to be original with whatever your designs are.  Don’t get discouraged, success doesn’t happen overnight.  Find free advertising on the web, email friends, use Facebook, and other social media outlets and you will see the sales start coming in.

Thanks Stephen!
